The Arms Trade Treaty and beyond: Enchancing international security
How does arms trade impact security? What is the importance of arms and arms control in international relations? How and why is arms control practiced and conducted?
This seminar focuses on how and why the Arms Trade Treaty was created, the potential effect of ATT on international security, and the meaning and significance of the treaty in the current security climate.
Finland has been an active proponent of the Arms Trade Treaty, which was signed in 2013 after lengthy negotiations. Active Finnish involvement has now culminated in Finnish presidency of the ATT, and thus a unique position for Finland in global arms control.
