The Finland-led IECEU project, funded by the European Union’s Horizon 2020 framework program, began in May 2015 and concluded in February 2018. Officially named “Improving the Effectiveness of Capabilities in EU Conflict Prevention,” the project aims to strengthen the European Union’s (EU) external security operations.
The project consortium includes eleven organizations from seven different countries, encompassing civilian, research, and military entities. Laurea University of Applied Sciences Ltd. serves as the project coordinator, with Finnish partners including the Crisis Management Centre, the Finnish Defence Forces International Centre, and SaferGlobe.
The primary goal of the project is to develop new approaches and solutions so that the EU can better respond to future challenges and crises. The IECEU project focuses specifically on the EU’s ability to prevent conflicts, conduct civilian and military crisis management, and build peace.
By analyzing the effectiveness of civilian crisis management missions and crisis management operations, the project seeks to identify methods that the EU can leverage to enhance the impact of its missions in the future. The IECEU project fosters cooperation between organizations and aims to formulate recommendations that will enable the EU to ensure societal stability in the long term.
